Interview with Marije Miller
by Norman Williams - Big Money Publishing Newsletter
June 21, 2002
The following is an email interview with Marije
Miller by Norman Williams of Big Money Publishing Newsletter.
Question from Norman: Can you
tell me about your business background?
Answer by Marije: I've, as many
people say, coached people all my life, but I officially started
Life Coaching in January, 2001. I immigrated from The Netherlands
to California, where I worked in both corporate America and non-profit
management. At that time, my husband and I decided to take a sabbatical:
the two-story house with the 3 cars, good jobs, etc., just wasn't
enough. So we took our 18 month old daughter and traveled for 10
months throughout Central and South America, Europe and Egypt. Meeting
wonderful people everywhere, who shared their stories and experiences
with us, made me realize how much I truly enjoy connecting with
people and co-creating their lives by empowering them to take action
towards a life they truly want for themselves. I now work with Comprehensive
Coaching U (a virtual coach training university, www.coachinginstruction.com)
as Dean of the Explode into Coaching Program, and I have my own
thoroughly fulfilling coaching practice.
Q: As a person on the Internet,
how did you get started?
A: Many years ago I worked briefly
as a high tech recruiter. I was familiar with the internet, mostly
with emailing, but I hadn't experienced the true power of the web.
Q: How long have you been in business
online?
A: In September of 2001 I created
my own domain name: www.yourgreatestlife.com.
My website is currently under construction and will be fully operational
by the beginning of July! I'm very thrilled about that!
Q: What online businesses you
are involved with?
A: My business is Personal and
Professional Coaching. I coach people who are ready to take action
to create the life they truly desire. My clients are a very eclectic
bunch: they vary from real estate agents to stay-at-home moms to
web-designers. What they do have in common are that they are all
great! They are looking for balance, may it be more financial freedom,
more selfcare, more social contacts, better relationships, etc.
And they know they deserve what they want. My website is a way for
people to get to know me and my coaching philosophy. The better
part of the coaching that I do is via the telephone.
Q: How did you learn what it takes
to succeed?
A: I love books, both from the
store and e-books. Currently I'm reading 'Conversations with Millionaires'
by Mike Litman and Jason Oman and 'Spiritual Marketing' by Joe Vitale.
Great books!
Q: What office equipment do you
use?
A: My wonderful HP Pavilion and
my Plantronics headphone with mute button! (So important in my work!)
Q: Do you do all of your business
online?
A: No, most of my coaching is
by phone. However, some people profit more from e-coaching. I offer
both.
Q: What are your biggest gripes
about the Internet?
A: It is the place to find the
best information as well as the worst. What I really despise is
the spam mails.
Q: Do you mostly do publishing
or other enterprises?
A: Publishing is only a small
part of what I do. I love to write and it helps me reach a bigger
audience to support my mission, which is to help people feel great
about themselves and their lives.
Q: Are there any tips or advice
you would like to offer?
A: About life? I love this quote,
I use it all the time to get people to allow to themselves to think
differently: 'Follow your deepest heart's desire....Why not?' By
Renee Locks.
Q: Do you use any clip art in
your publications?
A: Not currently.
Q: Are people more interesting
than product stories?
A: Absolutely!
Q: What are your goals and aspirations
for the future?
A: My ultimate goal is to create
a system that a) makes every coaching experience an extraordinary
experience and b) that teaches coaching skills in schools to help
teachers and students create a safe and supportive, non-judging
learning space.
Q: What software do you use to
make your websites?
A: My webmaster does it for me.
Q: What are your favorite books
or computer programs?
A: See answer 5.
Q: What is your best time for
working on your computer?
A: My personal best time is early
in the morning, right after (or with) my first cup of coffee. Depending
on how much work I get done in that first 2 1/2 hour stretch I may
do a couple of other stretches in the early afternoon. The rest
of my time is taken up by coaching!
