The value of coaching skills in 2002
by Marije Miller
Without doubt, the events of September 11 changed
everyone's lives. Many people, supposedly 'so far away' from New
York and personally unrelated to anyone who lost their life in the
event, find themselves battling with a myriad of emotions, ranging
from disbelief to a new sense of vulnerability, which wasn't there
before. In reaction to this, we seem to have discovered a need for
personal contact with everyone around us, to reclaim control of
our lives - people are reaching out to family and friends they haven't
spoken to in years, even to people they meet at the grocery store.
In addition, questions are emerging about 'the
quality of our existence'. Suddenly, we have a need to know what
is important to us? What is it we have always wanted to do/be/experience
before it is too late? And how can we get ourselves there?I believe
that coaching can provide in helping others to find answers to these
questions, both for coaches and non-coaches alike: parents, therapists,
teachers, business owners; anyone with a personal or business oriented
desire to reach out. When we really learn to focus on others, really
tune into them and find out what makes them tick, we open ourselves
to a new world, with new possibilities and a renewed sense of faith
in humanity.
At Comprehensive Coaching U, we feel very strongly
about the necessity of learning those 'soft skills'. We really want
to know what it would take for you to feel great about your life.
And so we teach people how to really listen to others. How to respond.
How to learn not to judge. How can you help yourself and others
to move forward, beyond these feelings of fear, to a new sense of
control and excitement in life?
A new program has been developed at Comprehensive
Coaching U. It is a short-term, highly intensive program based on
Terri Levine's book: 'Coaching for an Extraordinary Life'. In 24
live teleclasses, people of all walks of life learn to really listen;
learn the distinction between your truth, my truth and The Truth;
and learn how to use play in dealing with change - all for a better
understanding of yourself and relating to others. With many more
people trained in these skills, I believe we have an extraordinary
life ahead of us!

Life' can be ordered through Comprehensive Coaching U's website
